In an attempt to save its Los Angeles headquarters, troubled electric vehicle startup Faraday Future has issued its first recall, affecting all 11 of the cars it manufactured last year.
The FF91 SUV manufactured by Faraday Future has an airbag warning light issue that is the main cause of the recall. The car's software may have a bug that keeps the warning light from coming on when there is an issue with the airbags, as the manufacturer has reportedly discovered.
In order to repair the software, Faraday Future claims that it would "schedule concierge pick up, and redelivery, of the owners’ vehicles." Thus far, well-known individuals such as Jason Oppenheim of Selling Sunset and musician Chris Brown (yes, really) have been among the first clients.
The recall occurs at a time when Faraday's financial situation seems dire. Following many late lease payments from Faraday, the startup's LA headquarters' landlord is attempting to evict it. (A hearing is set for the first part of April.) As part of cost-cutting measures that it just extended through mid-to-late March, Faraday has furloughed or reduced the salaries of several of its remaining staff, according to emails that TechCrunch was able to access.
Nevertheless, it is amazing that Faraday Future has even reached the stage where it needs to issue a recall at all, having lost almost $4 billion over the course of nearly ten years.
