A Swedish court of appeals has decided that Klarna must pay a punishment of around $750,000 for breaking the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) fined Klarna SEK 7.5 million ($733,000) in March 2022 for neglecting to give clients enough information about how the company stores personal data.
At the time, Klarna declared that it will file an appeal, citing the ruling as "ambiguous" and pertaining to privacy notes used between March and June 2020.
The Administrative Court of Appeal has increased the penalty to the SEK 7.5 million that the IMY had requested, despite a court ruling last year that only required Klarna to pay SEK 6 million.
Reuters was informed by a Klarna representative that it is "too early to comment" on the decision.
