Software development lifecycle (SDLC) security company BlueFlag Security has announced a $11.5 million seed fundraising round.

Maverick Ventures and Ten Eleven Ventures led the investment, with Pier 88 Investment Partners also taking part. The goal of this funding infusion is to further develop BlueFlag's cutting-edge SDLC security and governance technology, which offers complete, identity-centric protection from the coding stage all the way through production.

A comprehensive strategy to SDLC security is essential at a time when software supply chain assaults are becoming more frequent. Conventional security solutions have frequently overlooked the crucial threat vector offered by developer identities, both human and machine, in favor of protecting against vulnerabilities in open-source software or developer tools. These identities have the potential to create vulnerabilities due to a variety of factors, including dangerous account behavior, excessive permissions, and poor identity hygiene. By highlighting the critical need of identity security and a single, integrated risk perspective across the software development life cycle (SDLC) to prevent software supply chain assaults, BlueFlag Security is upending the status quo.

The company was formed by Ken Schneider and Raj Mallempati with the goal of providing a multi-layered defense platform that combines open-source software risk management, developer tool posture management, and identity security. The goal is to promote a reliable, efficient, and safe development environment where identity protection is just as strict as code and tool protection.

"Our mission is to provide developers with a clean, trustworthy environment," said Raj Mallempati, CEO of BlueFlag Security, in order to highlight the company's vision. The BlueFlag platform presents a fundamentally innovative approach that puts identity security at the center of SDLC security and governance, not just another layer of protection. We extend an invitation to the industry to stand with us in promoting a future in which code scanning, developer tool configuration, and developer identity security are all essential components of our protocols and software development is intrinsically secure.

With this funding, BlueFlag Security will be able to continue developing its platform, which combines an identity-first strategy with AI-driven insights to provide a complete SDLC security solution. This provides a comprehensive understanding of risk throughout the SDLC by embracing ongoing adherence to secure by design principles, which go beyond code to include developer identities and tools.

Prominent cybersecurity experts Dr. Chase Cunningham and Prabhath Karanth have commended BlueFlag Security for its creative method and all-encompassing SDLC security solution, highlighting the platform's ability to reduce risks, guarantee compliance with regulations, and foster a trust-based development environment.
